OH SURVector Symposium
From the Alps to the Mediterranean: One Health surveillance and Vector monitoring for cross-border pathogens
Why participate?
Vector-borne diseases, spread by mosquitoes and ticks, cause over 700,000 deaths annually but are preventable through control measures. Knowledge about the presence and distribution of vectors is key to inform policy interventions. The OH SURVector project aims at establishing nationwide surveillance systems to monitor vectors and pathogens, addressing data gaps and collaborating towards One Health surveillance.
Over the past three years, project partners from 5 European countries have worked on following goals and surveillance activities.
- Early detection of new tick and mosquito species that can transmit zoonotic pathogens
- Early detection of newly introduced pathogens transmitted by ticks and mosquitoes
- Early detection of changes in the distribution of vectors and pathogens
Networking between all stakeholder groups is an important tool for achieving these goals, and the OH SURVector Symposium not only serves to communicate the main outcomes of the project but furthermore provides the ideal platform for fostering international networking on expert and policy level.
Target group
- Experts (vectors, vector-borne diseases) from the 5 consortium countries
- Policy representatives from Public Health and Animal Health from the national competent authorities, federal states and also from the Consortium Member States
- International representatives from EFSA, ECDC, HaDEA, EC and representatives of sister projects within the OH Surveillance Grant
- Specialist audience and colleagues from universities, museums, public health authorities, vector people, and VBD research
