Kristín Vala Ragnarsdóttir
University of Iceland

A cultural revolution occurred in the Nordic countries around 1900 after the enlightenment finally came up North in Europe around 1850. Discussions were held by women in salons. This led to folk schools being established, and cultural and agricultural transformation occurred.  At the schools young peopled stayed for 3-6 months and discussed new ideas, widening their perspectives.  After came cooperatives, transformation in farming and design and the ground was set for the foundation of the welfare state. The lecture will outline the concept Bildung for farming, and how it can again be a building block for the new agricultural revolution we need in the 21st century.

Introducing the ÖMKi On-farm Living Lab in Hungary

Dóra Drexler
Hungarian Research Institute of Organic Agriculture

The ÖMKi On-farm Living Lab is a network of innovative agricultural actors carrying out experiments on organic and agroecology-oriented farms, coordinated by the Hungarian Research Institute of Organic Agriculture, ÖMKi. The On-farm network was established in 2012 as the first research network in Hungary that is based on the active participation of agricultural producers: the topics of simple experiments carried out under realistic conditions are determined together with the farmers. It was accredited as a Living Laboratory in 2020 by ENoLL. Currently - besides operating the On-farm Living Lab - ÖMKi coordinates the European network of Living Labs and Research Infrastructures in frame of the EU Agroecology Partnership.
