The Farmland Biodiversity Observatory, a participatory science programme to monitor biodiversity on farmland
Suzanne Lefebvre (l'Observatoire Agricole de la Biodiversité)
France’s Farmland Biodiversity Observatory (FBO) engages farmers in biodiversity monitoring through local networks of professionals in agriculture. Acting as a “frontier object,” it fosters dialogue between scientists and farmers, enabling collective action and collaboration across scales. The presentation will describe the programme, with its strengths and difficulties.
Regenerative Agriculture for Sustainable Intensification: Integrating Biodiversity for Resilient Systems
João Coimbra (Quinta da Cholda)
The intensification of agriculture is essential if Europe is to remain self-sufficient in food and fiber; the regenerative model offers us hope that we can once again believe in sustainability and, even more so, in the regeneration of the agricultural ecosystem. Competitiveness requires a shift from the chemical-mechanical agricultural model to an eco-friendly and biodiverse system that fosters resilience. The transition model that Quinta da Cholda is pursuing demonstrates that high yields are possible, along with increased profitability and benefits for biodiversity.
